All i know now is regret. she follows like a silhouette of a cobblestone behind me. she has nothing left to say except to innocently ask, her voice deliquite as glass. do you see me when we pass? But i continue on my way. Memphis will be laid to waste, by Norma Jean

Views on homosexuality, anyone? May 14 2008, 03:22 AM
I've noticed a large majority or people are either 'gay' or 'bisexual' on this site, and this is quite a passionate topic of mine, but what are your views on homosexuality and how do you feel about the way it gets badly looked upon?

Oh, so you're bi-curious? When did you first start questioning it? I mean, what signs gave you the impression you might be Bisexual?

^ HAHA! at the convo above (: Youu guys make me laugh (: No, seriously though, I'm sick of society's views on homosexuality, and how looked down on it is to be gay, or bi. In the town I live in, it's practically a criminal offence. Exhibit A: Messing around with my friends in town last summer. Two of the guys kissed, as a joke. An old woman none of us knew came charging up and started lecturning them about being a disgrace to the town. Exhibit B: Talking on the phone to one of my friends. We were talking about how most of the girls we know have kissed another girl, she asked me if I had, and I said 'Yeah - who hasn't kissed their girl mates lately? (or something like that) as my mum came into the room. She told me to hang up the phone and then had a massive go at me, about how 'inappropriate' it was and how I was bringing shame on the family. Exhibit C: Watching Brokeback Mountain. My dad turns it off. Apparently, it's not 'appropriate'. What, so it's okay for me to watch straight couples fucking in other films, but I can't watch two guys even kiss? I mean, what the hell? I just don't get the homophobic attitude. As I said, people have a much more tolerant attitude towards straight couples doing a lot more in public, than just a gay couple holding hands. Why is this? I mean, wouldn't you rather see two people happy and in love rather than fighting? Not in my town.

yeh i agree how silly it is sometimes, people should be free to do what they want, saying this i dont agree with alot of youngsters who think its "kool" to kiss their girl mates if their a girl or guy mates if their a guy does seem to be geting alot better now tho as there is alot more gay bars about now and they are geting quite popular :D its the birmingham pride this weekend which should be interesting, heres the link http://www.birminghampride.org.uk/

Sadly there are still a large number of small minded, bigoted people within society. I have seen tolerance get a little better towards gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender people, but in all honesty from my experience, I do find that I am looked down upon, shunned, verbally and sometimes physically attacked because I am gay. I do experience some kind of homophobia at least a couple of times a week and although I overcame being bothered by homophobia many years ago, I do get annoyed that such people can't just let me be me. I fail to understand why me being gay has any kind of negative impact on such peoples lives, that they feel they have to submit me to homophobia. I will admit I don't hid my sexuality in any way and I will walk down the street holding my partners hand. I know it could be said "well you're asking for trouble then", but I don't see why I shouldn't be able to enjoy a simple pleasure of holding my partners hand in public just because some homophobic idiot may feel uncomfortable. I kiss my partner in public and I kiss my gay friends in public as well, yes I have experienced many encounters with "horrified" older generation people and lots of threats, attacks etc from homophobic younger people. I have the view though that if I hide my sexuality, don't do what I feel is normal and natural to me in public then the homophobes have won and I would never let that happen. There does seem to be a general attitude that homo/bisexuality is not "appropriate" as Sugar_Cane said, but I agree with Sugar_Cane that it also seems perfectly fine for straight people to be affectionate with each other in public, having sex on television etc, but if it's homosexual people doing the same, it's suddenly a huge issue and offensive. It would be great to travel forward fifty years to see if everything is going to turn out ok for homo/bisexual people, that it's just accepted that some people are straight and some people are homo/bisexual. I would suggest as well that the explosion of the "chav" culture has actually made things worse (and that's not only for homo/bisexual people). I will do a mini plug now, I shall be having fun, celebrating my homosexuality and showing that I am proud of who I am this coming Saturday in Sheffield's Cemetery Park at South Yorkshire Pride http://www.southyorkshirepride.co.uk/site/ (actually I won't be having any fun, I shall be running around frantically making sure the acts get onto the main stage when they are supposed to as I am part of the crew! How did that happen :s).

Yeah people always seem to say that but I don't think it's true. If nobody was they'd all be bisexual or bi curious. I think it's a silly view to be quite frank. I've known a lot of arseholes and there's no way they aren't 100% straight. To put it simply...it's bullshit. What do you think of it Vic?

Most people are curious when they are growing up, but in my opinion I feel 100% straight at the moment.

A lot of people won't admit it. I have thought about it ages ago and don't have a problem with saying that.

Darling? No matter how horrible your parents may seem, you've got to come out about your sexuality, I think. Otherwise you won't really be happy and comfortable with yourself if you don't. I know it sounds terrifying and they might be a little mad or whatever, but you've really got to tell them. I know it seems like I'm forcing the issue on a bit here, but I'm just trying to help. So if you need any advice - just ask okay sweetheart? :)

Being homophobic is just stupidly retarded seen as half of the worlds population is homosexual. I don't see why people find it such a big screen drama when someone 'comes out of the closet' because chances are, 1 in every 5 people you know, are encountering sexual feelings for the same gender.
