The silent sky is painted grey Then the noise comes out to play Pounding in such a loud array The thunder laughs at mortal fear. The lights perform a dazzling show Lighting the darkened sky But just as the sun has gone away The lightning will soon have to die. The rain falls and flowers bloom Yet it reminds me of sadness - Why does the rain beat down on my pain With that silent trickle of doubt Mocking my craving for gladness. The rain can make a rest pleasant. Yet it can drown the homeless peasant The rain catches the unknowing fool Drowning the ignorant in a burial pool. The rain falls without a care Of who is caught within its snare. It’s a blessing, a gift from God. It waters the radiant ginger lilies, It quenches the desires of the thirsty. Yet- Despite of the power of the heavenly showers The floods these tidings bring, Despite the river in the valley, And the oceans wave like sting, The rain is more than just some water It’s showers hold something deeper- As I look up at the falling sky I feel like I am sucking a teeter. The rain just reminds me of being a mortal being That there are things beyond my control It reminds that there is a higher heaven It reminds me I have to grow old. It reminds me of fear and sorrow Of not wanting to be cold It reminds me that I’m just a lad And there are many things I could never do The rain reminds me with its windy whispers It reminds me of missing you.
