American Education :/ Jul 12 2010, 09:39 PM
Has anyone other than me (especially the non-americans) noticed how far behind American education is from every other country... I have a friend who moved to Germany right after sixth grade and she is about to go into the ninth grade with all her high school credits just because she switched countries.... I see 17 year olds in college on here and i see bones is my age and is going into her 11th year where as I'm just now going into 9th I mean come on... maybe I should just move to Canada or Mexico... I'm closer to Mexico...

yes i do realize that..the other day i was watching this foreign channel (cause i have no life) and it was kind of like "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader" and there was like 5th grade questions on there that i haven't learned yet and I'm going into 8th grade..I find it quite annoying because we as Americans are supposed to get equal education and we are so far behind..say there was a job opening and an American and a native German applied for it i bet you a million dollars the German gets the job because foreign people are so much smarter..

First of all Are You Smarter Than a Fifth grader isn't a foreign show... unless you live in Texas or Alaska you should have been taught what they ask. I say all but Texas and Alaska because they refuse to follow the country wide curiculim, but yes America is probally the stupidest country in the world!

but as for grade school (1-12) it all has to be basically the same because our military gets shifted around so much... that's like you would think that living by the biggest military base in the world would make you have better schooling, nope not at all... although 1 of the schools around here has one of the highest ratings in the world the high school drop out rate is pretty high too... wow all of that and not one spelling mistake, according to Safari

I said the foreign show that I was watching was KIND OF like "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader." I live in Central New York and I am going into 8th grade and I still haven't learned some of the 5th grade questions that were on the show.

Nikki, I'm from Texas, and I've been taught virtually everything I've seen on that show, plus much more. I'm well-aware of the "Texans are dumbass hicks" stereotpe, and what you said seemed to imply just that: Texans are stupid. I'm not pleased. With all that crap said, yes, America is a shit country in a ludicrous number of ways, and education is only one of them. It makes me wonder: when Manifest Destiny got started, did it occur to ANYONE that once you're in charge of a third of a whole friggin' continent "from sea to shining sea", things might get a LITTLE difficult to manage? Not to mention that in modern times, we've practically turned the country into the world's police force and ATM machine, so that just MIGHT make things a little harder. This whoring for land and power was caused by greed, and this greed was caused by our obscene nationalism, which still persists to this day. Back when George Washington was around, he knew how to keep things running smoothly. Too bad we didn't listen to his advice in his farewell address...

^^^ I know what your saying and what I am trying to say is that in Texas they just take way longer to teach it... and every school district is actually different in Texas... I have lived in both Texas and Missouri my whole life (Missouri in the summer) and when I talk with people my age up here I see how far we are behind... my brother was being schooled in Missouri and wasn't doing bad but they had to have his classes set so far ahead when he came back he had to be put on a special plan with less credits... also it depends on whether your taking regular or advanced classes... next school year is going to be my first year being in regular classes and its going to suck because I will have already learned most of it and also I have NEVER heard that stereotype from anyone other than Texans so it could very possibly be true...
