Suicide. Jul 18 2010, 02:56 PM
I don't know if this is the right place to put this but I feel it needs to be said. In Dundee, Scotland in the past two weeks, seven young men aged between 17-23 have killed themselves. The first was Anthony Riddel who was only 17 and hung himself from a tree beside my house. The second was one of my friends and Anthony's best friend, Ragan Thomson who was only 18 and killed himself on the same tree 48 hours exactly after Anthony. Only two days later did another two men hang themselves too, in two different places only hours apart. The fifth was another of my friends, Iain Bell, the causes of his death are unknown but he died in his bedroom. I don't know anything of the other two boys yet but I felt it was needed to spread the word. Please, if you need help just ask for support from you friends, family, proffesionals or even anyone on here. These boys' death shall not be in vain. Rest In Peace boys. <3

its very weird this day's the phenomenon of suicidal teen agers & kids , i saw reality shows and some articales it's all indicate's about the home status and emotional and confidence Wealth on the Teen age or kid mind... its very bad and sad plus i am allways concern about that matter, it seems like a deja Vu once its soo out and once its an impact in..

I'm from Dundee, I knew all these people through someone some way or another. It's really sad for everybody and I hope all their family and friends are staying strong. I feel there is not enough support for people with these feelings to be honest and I think more needs to be done to educate people because there is a lot of negative thoughts about the subject.

R.I.P to these people. I agree more needs to be done to support these people. I mean there are lots of websites out there, but I don't think they make enough of an impact. Also I feel school's just won't touch on such issues. Most school's don't even provide adequate sex education (sorry I know this is unrelated, but it's just an example).

There was only one boy who tired to get help, Iain. He had tried to kill himself before and his Dad tried to get him help but they said he was fine. Clearly he wasn't. And people are syaing it's eight people now but I'm not sure.

I think there should be groups that you can go to with people who are going through the same thing with a counselor or something there to help. In June when i had tried to kill myself i was sent to an inpatient hospital that dealt with behavioral problems and eating disorders and self harm and suicide. while i was there, there were these three girls that i was friends with and they were there for the same reasons as i was and it was very helpful to be able to talk to people who know what your going through and be able to give you tips. And i do agree that there should be more mentioned about the problems. and i like the school idea. my school is 2nd in drug related issues in New York and in the top 5 for most suicides per school districts in New York.

Do all school's have a councilor? I very much doubt it. It all comes down to resources/money :(

Err, when I was at school you were encouraged to talk to your guidance or form teacher or the school nurse about things like that... or any teacher really. There was an out of school health worker that came in weekly but that was only cos my school was really bad for drugs/under-age pregnancy etc. so there was alot of things going on that needed see to.

They do have council groups and such. There is a child mental health clinic that's considered really good. I don't think it is, I first got put there when I was 11 for self harm, told I was fine and got left alone. And since then I've just kept gong back with more and more, worse and worse problems. If only people would take this all seriously then maybe the boys would still be here.

wow thats really sad. T.T here at my school there is a lot of drugs early pregs and suicide, and the sad thing is all the teachers all of them know about it no one hides it here because the teachers just ignore it. there is one teacher in our whole school (we have over 500 people 3 grades) that acctually wants to help but the school told her that she shouldnt meddle in others affairs and that if she did she would be fired and she really needs the money cuz the economys really bad here. so people are sitting in the bathrooms smoking pot and fucking eachother when they should be in class. the two "conculers" dont care either. One just completely ignores you while the other tells you to make all the wrong choices for his own personal amusement. people bring knives and guns and bombs to school all the time and they dont get kicked out they just get a little slap on the wrist i dont even want to go to school cuz i never know if ill live through it. rest in peace boys.

R.I.P. x yeah in my old school we had education on sex, drugs, smoking and alcohol. We get told about those subjects every year. But everyone did them and we had a nurse that came in to help on mondays or something and student advisers for each year but they didnt help one bit. if you was sad, drunk or high they just left you to do want you wanted in lessons they didnt bother. like i had a lot of marks on my arms but never did i teacher question them. i think its possibly down to a few reasons 1. they don't know how to deal with it, with out making it worse in some aspects 2. they don't care there they to only teach (thats what one teacher said to me) and the other reason is you'll be leaving in a few years there be fine or its a phase. theres many reason but these are some i got when i was in school. There this other attitude that they don't think it will happen in the area but its a national problem that is not consider. my condolences to the family and friends x

There was a large section on the news tonight about these boys. Saying how some of them had been "treated" for mental health issues... and has been in and out of hospital apparently fine. :\

my school sucks though..we are either #1 or #2 highest drug rate in new york and in the top 5 for highest suicide rate..people have drugs all the time and everytime you walk into the bathroom somebody is smoking pot..atleast once a week somebody gets caught with alcohol..the priciple and stuff claim they care but yet nobody ever gets in trouble..the only teacher who cares about self-harm is one of the counselors and she has to be a bitch about it..teachers ignore self-harm and could care less if your high or drunk..some teachers actually cover for you if you bring alcohol to school..kids pull the fire alarm atleast once a month because they think its funny..teacher dont do anything when you are getting bullied even though they teach you about it for a week every year and they wonder why we have such a high suicide rate..our school is going down a drain
