learning guitar.... Jul 26 2010, 03:59 AM
Hey! I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on the best way to teach yourself to play guitar? I bought one recently and my dad has been helping me a bit but his knowledge is pretty basic (he's really a piano man, lol) so any advice would be really helpful! :D

I typed into google images "guitar chords" and copied and pasted that image onto a word document and printed it out and taught myself them chords(: and I looked on YouTube and on the internet for music to learn.

not rly sure how much u know already but here is what i think is most important :) 1. learn how to read tabs, if u can do that u can play any song u want from a google search 2. learn the basic classical chords off by heart A to G 3. must learn power chords and bar chords 4. finger exercise e.g. play the first 4 frets in a pattern. so like 1,2,3,4 - 1,3,2,4, - 4,3,2,1 just any combination up and down the 6 strings. another exercise is changing the classical chords fast but, i think the best way is just learn songs from tabs off sites and yea i agree with jess, the fret board is helpful and get that callus on the tips :P
