so i live in the united states...and like i know that people that live in the united kingdom like write their words that have um u's in them...ex)colour vs color...and i actually write my words like with the u's in them..and the other day i was in english class and i got points marked off because i write the u's in the words...so um i was wondering if i should talk to the teacher about this because i dont know if this would be considered the write spelling in the united states

you should defeninently ask her about words that your unsure about in the u.s cause the states are tuff but always happy to help when needed hehe:)

I'm from the UK, and I'e realised that Americans spell tons of things differently. In school, we don't get marks off for writing it the American way as that is the way apell checks on our word programs do it. It's worth mentioning to your teacher that we can spell it either way and still get marks.

In Aus we can't write American. We get marks taken off if we spell things without a "u". Its considered culturally incorrect.

ur going to school in america, you should write american. you wouldnt submit something in french or german right? samedifference

I'm from the UK and when I was at school it'd be classed as a spelling mistake missing the 'u' in colour for example.

@thomis:um my parents didnt teach me to spell when i was younger..my parents were never around...i learned to spell by copying books..um i know this sounds stupid but thats the only way i learned..and the books that i had were written in the uk so um thats how i learned to spell..so its not like i can really help it.. and um i did talk to him and he gave me the points back once i explained to him about how i learned to spell..he just wants me to try my hardest to spell it the american way

lol I spell colour and mum the non-american way because its prettier and just looks more correct... I'd say it all depends on where you live because I live like 5 miles away from the largest military base in the world so they don't really care but I try not to do it in my school work but idk... for us our only thing we aren't aloud to do is write in pencil... as for what Thomas said lmfao French actually makes more sense than english and I get extremly confused coming out of my french class going straight to my english class XD
