My band's falling apart, help me out? Oct 07 2010, 01:16 AM
So check it out: Im the lead singer of this band called Black Star Residence...don't bother memorizing the name, it may not last long. Everything started out fine, till we noticed that one of our members, the second guitar SUX ASS. We've been stuck rehearsing the same damn songs for months cuz he wont freakin learn them and we're sick of it. Now, i know what you're gonna say: "Kick him out!" Not that easy. Trust me, we want to...except that our manager is totally against it. For some reason, she wants us to live with the shame of meltdowns, out of key riffs, getting lost in the middle of the song and just an all around crappy sounding guitar. Should we go against our manager's wishes and kick the dude out, or put up with it for all eternity?

i had a band before, but we stopped cuz our singer went off to uni. if i was you, i would first have a full band meeting to formally sort out problems and see the managers reasons for keeping the crappy guitarist and reasons why the guitarist is not putting in any effort. give the guitarist "X" days/weeks/months to see improvements but if this has been done already i would consider finding a new manager because clearly the current one is not doing a good job managing the band as well as a replacement guitarist

i tottaly agree with the above...>.< im having similar problems with my bad (except we dont have a manager)...like were struggling to find a decent line up, we are yet to practice even though we have the time. We chose a song and everyone was happy, untill the guitarist decided he didnt like the song (,after making no attempt to learn it!) so we've changed it but he still hasnt bothered trying to learn it...and we have a sick bassist, and he'll learn anything, but he wont put any imput for making decisions, which is rather anoyin xD

seems like you guys need a "leader" i was sorta the leader in mine cuz we used to practice in my flat so i organise all the sessions. my band had 5 people, and each one of us chooses a song, so everyone in the band learns the 5 songs in a week. at the end everyones happy or pressured by guilt xD e.g. "but all of us learnt your song, you should learn ours" :P

Yea, you shouls go against her wishes. If he really does suck you shouldn't have to put up with it, thats why my band was our own manager. I once had a band called Four Black Roses, but our guitarist was a bitch, the bassist wasn't hardly at any rehearsals or practices, and the drummer was too immature at the moment so I was left pulling all the weight. So the bassist pretty much left, our guitarist was automatically kicked out when we had a fight, and now me and my sister/drummer are left now that shes older and more mature. We have a new band called Blackeded Skylines made up of me and my sister, so I think all bands pretty much have ups and downs.
