Hey everyone! March 1st is Self-Harm Awareness Day, the idea is to make people more informed of the condition as well as its causes, effects and consequences. As the Welfare Officer in my union I've arranged for the local Mental Health team to come in and give a presentation and I've developed my own that I will be giving to my students too! As well as this on March 10th (My birthday of all days...) I am running a self-harm awareness stall as part of the colleges Health and Well Being day. We don't have a self harm awareness day, but at my highscool we have the day of silence. Its supposed to keep us from cussing eachother out

I dont know about here we've never done it at school i think that sucks i know many people including myself who self harm, people should be taught more about it.

Thats the idea of the day, it is set up in the US and I'm trying top bring it over to the UK. People need real education, running up to March 1st I will make the presentation available so other people can use it this year and in future years. I am puting a motion to NUS (national union of students) in the UK to run a campaign each year to educate people on the causes, effects and concequences.

I hope this is worthwhile because to put it bluntly the general public aren't aware... Even if they are they shrug it off.

I have a meeting with the heads of schools/departments on Friday to ask them to make their students go, I have a lecture theater so I can have at least 90 students/tutors at a time. Only thing is we have Campus Student Parliament in the afternoon which I'm in charge of so my minds full of stuff for that. We should have another meeting before March 1st and the unions putting up posters, Im asking EVERYONE I can to come along even if it's just to get out of lessons. I'm going to have to aim for A2 students as the AS have a HE talk and there some other (to me) less important things going on that day..... But I have a stall on March 10th in the Health and Well Being Fair so I'm going to try and talk to people about it there if the presentations don't go too well...

Do you know, some rich, spoilt perfect life kid should be put in a self-harmer's life...Then maybe they'd understand.

I'm doing a self harm awareness work for school, and I think it's an important thing to discus. I didn't want to do it, cause I was affraid it might be triggering (I was a cutter), but I haven't cut so far =) I think is important to be aware of self harm, cuz it can become an addiction without a person notissing.

If you're talking about it make sure you discuss damage limitation and alternatives :) I find the research is triggering due to the images and kinds of things you find when you are searching.... You have to try and find trusted sites.
