I was lost, I went down. I was sustained by the sound, By the angels singing me to sleep, Now my feet are leaving the ground. Am I dead or am I dreaming instead, A cornucopia of opiates are flooding my head. Raised By The Wolves, by Falling In Reverse

Self-Harm Awareness Feb 06 2011, 06:08 AM
Hey everyone! March 1st is Self-Harm Awareness Day, the idea is to make people more informed of the condition as well as its causes, effects and consequences. As the Welfare Officer in my union I've arranged for the local Mental Health team to come in and give a presentation and I've developed my own that I will be giving to my students too! As well as this on March 10th (My birthday of all days...) I am running a self-harm awareness stall as part of the colleges Health and Well Being day. I was just wondering if you know of any events going on near you! For more information on my campaigns please visit http://bit.ly/CGSUBlogSH http://www.nusconnect.org.uk/resources/10207/Self-Harm-Awareness-Presentation/

Oh man, they don't have anything like that where I live. Houston, Texas inside of the U.S. Honestly, the first thing they do to kids who look as if they're cutting themselves, is send them to the hospital or the school counselor(who will listen to them and suggest therapy to their parents). I should start one. I know a lot of kids at my school who cut themselves for all kinds of reasons. It makes me sad. They deserve to have friends or something. Not some grown-up getting paid to give them solutions to problems that they don't really even understand.

So self-harm awareness day is tomorrow. I'm giving my presentation and I am really nervous... I'm doing it on my own too now because my volunteer is dropping out of everything to go out drinking... What's the best way to calm my nerves??

So the first preseentation no one turned up so I went to EVERY staff room and people literaly sent their students and made them listen, the second one I had at least two full classes to present to. I made leaflets of "Causes", "alternatives" and "I know a sufferer" (so what to do if you know one) and people took them. Their response was really good! I have a stall in our health and well being stall so Im continuing my campaign and I'm trying to make it NUS policy (if it passes at conference in April) for att student unions (including uni) to campaign and educate people on self-harm.
