Being Bipolar Feb 27 2011, 12:18 PM
I know I don't have the toughest life out there. I'm sure that most of you have it harder than I do. But being Bipolar just stinks. I hear voices n' see hallucinations. None of the pills work for very long, n' I haven't had a good night's sleep for at least a year. I've been manic a few times, but after I'm done with the episodes, I go into a deeper depression. I go to therapy n' everything, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

I dont suffer but i have insomnia depression BDP and other things so i can relate. Best thing is to just go and see different specialists because they all practice different things dont settle for something when there are other methods doctors can give you that will help more.

I'm bipolar too, meds don't really work all the either but I find just having people there to help me whatever I'm feeling helps, although it's not always possible to always have people around that understand. I guess just keeping busy, healthy and doing things I enjoy help... As for sleeping, I won't tell you how I deal with that now, its not the best, but in the past exercise and taking an hour or so to relax, reading or something, before bed has helped me.

I was diagnosed with Bipolar type II, anxiety disorder, and PTSD when I was thirteen. Until I was seventeen I was on medication for it, but the problem with bipolar medications is that certain kinds (anti-depressants) can trigger a manic episode, so they may have to balance them out with mood stabilizers. And I had night terrors/nightmares, so I was also prescribed Seroquel. You get sleep on it, but you don't dream at all, so it throws your whole brain outta wack whenever you get off of it. But having bipolar does suck. It's something that will never go away, you're going to have it your whole life, so the best thing to do is just find coping mechanisms that are safe and helpful. I ended up having my son last year and throughout the pregnancy I was off of my medication. He's a year old and I'm still off of the prescriptions because I've found that I enjoy the quality of life off of pills. Maybe you should try running, painting, meditation, anything you find calming. When I get upset, I do something methodical, like applying makeup. I find the routine to be soothing and I look pretty afterwards. I wish you all the luck in the world in finding something that works for you to feel better. *cyber hug*
