heya, I've got a few questions for you. What do you mean by thinning? Is your hair falling out or breaking in two? What exactly did you do to your hair that's causing all of the damage? Is it split at the ends? Is it frizzy? What shampoo and conditioner do you use? If I know some of these things I can help.. Pics would help too.

How often do you straighten your hair and for how long?

Aussie 3 minute miracle is awesome. Also, start using specific shampoo for damaged/frizzed hair. Maybe use heat protectant gel, if you don't already. I've also heard putting extra virgin olive oil in your hair and then blow drying it before you wash it can make it better. Umm... That's all I got for now, I hope it helps! :) My hair gets all frizz/poofy too and it falls out, but I have SUPER thick hair so it's not bad for me.

I thought if you you were only supposed to straighten your hair like once a week if it stays protected and dry. :O I won't doubt anyone here though, I don't really give a fuck about my hair. :P

You should definitely start using heat protection spray - I only occasionally straighten or curl my hair, but when I do, I make sure that I use heat protection spray every time. Do you use any other hair products, e.g. hairspray or hair gel? If so, cut down on them, that will help. Also, cut down on the amount of times a week you straighten your hair, maybe just once or twice instead? And try using a paddle brush the other days - probably harder to a guy to use, but they're great for making your hair straighter without heat. If your hair's falling out more than it should, this could be down to stress. Or, if quite a lot is falling out, you might want to keep an eye on it, as this could be alopecia (though this is a genetic problem rather than down to straightening your hair), but don't panic, this isn't if your hair is simply thinning a little, and for most people, it's only mild and the hair will grow back (I have first hand experience, my brother had it mildly but now he's fine).

I only straighten my fringe and the sides quickly in a couple of minutes. Going over the same sections too many times will make your hair flat and lifeless. People then counteract this by using lots of hair products..

You need a moisturizing conditioner. Damage repair will only help you if you purchase it salon grade. Vitamins are great but if your hair seems thin or brittle then it needs moisture. Damage repair needs keratin or else it doesn't do anything. Your hair loses structure when the hydrogen bonds become destroyed, it hurts the integrity of the hair, leaving only approximately 50% of it intact via Van Der Waals bonds and Disulfide bonds. Adding keratin to your hair, "aka, hair with processed bits of hair in it," will rebuild fully damage hair. I doubt you need damage repair but if you do then pick up salon grade conditioner with keratin additives. http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/productDetail.jsp?skuId=2203083&productId=xlsImpprod1040326&navAction=push&navCount=1&categoryId=cat120016 Because you bake it 3-5 times a week, I'm assuming the problem is, moisture. So any moisturizing conditioner will work. http://www.aubrey-organics.com/ProductInfo/351.aspx

@ iSLITmyWRISTS can't you get a keratin treatment at a salon?

Yes, don't give up on your hair! I've had really damaged hair too and it was a relief to fix. Besides, long hair like that looks good!

Yeah, it's a bit pricey but you know, hair, right? lol Salons do have products with keratin. ^^ Maybe cheaper ones too, you can check and find out if your hair gives you more problems. My suggestion is this. Take a break from the flat iron almost completely for about two weeks. Moisturize it 1-2 times a day. You'll notice over the first week that your hair is much healthier. After two weeks it should be almost like new. Yes <--- Moisture is that important. They also have moisturizing shampoo and conditioner at salons that are WAAAYY better then shit you get on shelves. Just something to consider but I'm broke too, so I know how it is. lol
