Bleaching! Apr 26 2011, 11:47 AM
Has anybody here ever bleached their hair? If so: Did you do it yourself with a bleaching kit or did you get a hairdresser to do it? What condition was your hair in afterwards? Did you then use another colour on top of it? If so, how long did you wait before using the dye? Having done bleaching before, would you do it again? If not: Would you ever do it? What are your concerns about bleaching?

so many questions hehe! I got mine bleached at a salon then got a friend to dye it black 2 weeks later. My hair was a little straw like as first, but after using some conditioner for a few months it was fine. I wouldn't bother bleaching again as a decent permanent dye will do me fine.

Bleached parts or whole head ceveral times. My hair gets really worn from bleaching, but how the hair will react and how light it will turn is individual for each person. Dyed it with semi-permanent colours right after. Those I use are balm-colours, so it's only good for the hair. Wouldn't think twice about bleaching again. Just be careful about bleaching it to often, and 2+ times in a row can be really hard on the hair and the skin (bleached it twice in a row once and got really sore skin).

I bleach my hair with a high lighting kit because i wanted purple highlights. I have naturally really really dark brown hair so i had to use some strong stuff and it was okay but its as a bit ginger. Then i put purple over the top and the colour was really bright but my school killed me so i just dyed it a really deep purple but the bleach highlights stand out so its okay :) if you want to bleach follow the intructions on the packet and do all the pre-bleaching tests and should be a okay xD

Lizzie, I like your style. I'm doing violet highlights later. I'm going to put varying shades of bleach in my hair then process all of them simultaneously for the same amount of time so I'll have various close shades in my hair. I think it'll be tight. I'm going to use a level 3 base with a violet filler. I've bleached other peoples hair several times and I've never bleached my own. Bleach can be dangerous because if you over bleach your hair it literally falls into pieces. Lifting color is the most damaging thing you can do to your hair. btw, hair is my obsession, if you haven't noticed. lol I have a hair show this Sunday. To answer your question, thoroughly, I would say I've never bleached my own hair and I probably never will. In my field, it's just easier to have somebody else do it for you. ^_^

i always do my hair at home, using hair dye kit (Garnier range) they've got the conditioner in the set, but i use l'oreal conditioner normally. i always end up with red / ginger shade if i go from darker shade to lighter (if i apply it hair that have been dyed dark before) but I tend to wait few days / weeks and this ginger tone normally disappears after few washes, but i guess is depends how big a change you made to your hair. Dying at home is pretty easy (and cheap) too ;)
