I'm more into smooth melodies and stuff aswell, and ofcourse you aren't alone in wanting to hear and connect wit the lyrics. In Screamo or whatever, you kind of get an hear for the vocals, and you can also train yourself to listen to a style of music more closely to hear it nore for note and, like, pick things up a bit better, if ya know what I mean? xD Not worth wasting your time listening to something you don't like, though. I don't like most stuff that would be simply categorized as 'screamo', I find its only really enjoyable for moshing/ getting hyped up, and kinda hard to listen to if you just wanna chill. Deathcore breakdown's are good, though. xD

Well, Silverstein isn't exactly screamo. Real screamo of today is called Skramz. People tend to categorize "screamo" before they know it's a genre, they either use the word for bands that has screams or aggressive emo bands. Real Screamo would be bands like Orchid, Saetia, Pg.99, Love Lost But Not Forgotten. Much hardcore music can also be looked upon as screamo, but it's really not, deathcore bands are nor screamo, they are deathcore. And screamo is mostly as the punk music, to release as much energy as possible. You shouldn't worry about what they say about your music, i love screaming. It's awesome, but it's not chilling music, if you want chill music i would rather go for modern rock bands like 3 Doors Down or Three Days Grace or Creed. Creed is amazing, you could also go for alternative metal bands such as Papa Roach or Breaking Benjamin. When it comes to melodies, i hate rainbow melodies, i think music should be dark and relative to reality. That's why I love Gothic Metal, it's dark an passionate in a romantic cool way. I didn't like metal before i was like "13" that's when I got into metal, I forced the music upon myself, trying to be the music. It actually worked, i became a metalhead and was a metalhead for about 3-6 years until i gave EMO a shot and found it really good, even though back then.. I just wanted to beat the crap out of whiny emokids, but that was until i found out that i should beat the posers not the real emos. I would recommend April Sixth actually, try search on youtube for April Sixth - Dear Angel, it's beautiful! As mentioned music is a habit, you like what you are used to, if your parents raised you listening to heavy metal, you would like it....but it can also have various environmental reasons aswell. I just want to say, listen to what you want, if your friends doesn't like it, tell them to close their ears because this is how you express yourself. That's what emo is all about! Being Emotive "not emotional". and if you don't know what emotive means it's the way of expressing emotions

Thats understandable :P I won't judge ^^ I myself don't just listen to screamo, in fact, the majority of what I listen to isn't screamo, but I love it lol :P

xCoreToTheMax thanks for your input on this. As I have said before anyone who likes what is considered screamo these days should check out the "true" screamo of the past. I really like some of the old screamo bands like Saetia.

Whoa lol just now read what he said. Lol well I just got a good history lesson that I needed xD hey, maybe there should be a thread about that... or something. To educate us all :P
