So i just started getting on this site like last week, and i have met alot of cool people. This suprises me, because i was unsure about looking for a chat/ social website with people sorta like me because in order to do so i would have to use labels. I really don't like using labels and i thought going to website that labels them self would be filled with people who generally follow one common theme. Analyzing people on the site i determined most people are okay with the term emo and are not offended when addressed by it. I on the other hand hate the term emo and hate labels all together. I feel as if its an insult in some cases and how other people use it to summarize someone. I was just wondering by beeing on soemo do you feel like we are labeling ourselves and do you get offended by being called emo outside of the website?

Personally, I don't call myself emo, I just say I have an alternative style and that's it :) I don't like when people use emo as an insult, because in my mind, it's NOT an insult.

^I love that answer xD I don't care if people call me 'Emo'. What gets me upset is what they think Emo is. They think cutting, crying, depressing poetry, etc.

Yeah, in real life I'm more of a Goth/Raver kid to be honest. If I had a label, at least. But I kinda look like a scene kid as well. So. Wierd stuff. Anyways, emo outside of this website is bad for the same reason as OnyxAngel, but I use it for the purpose of finding people like me.

This is what annoys me, ignorance towards terms and sub-cultures. Emo, Goth, Punk. They are not labels, they are sub-cultures which one choose to join or not. I agree with OnyxAngel. And yes people use the term to describe personalities which is wrong because they are not definitions of personality traits. No, we are not labeling ourselves, a label would indicate that we are all the same, follow the same guidelines, have the exact same world view, have the exact same religious views and dress exactly the same. A label would be a coke bottle with coke, and coke only or else it's not coke or a label. "just an example maybe not good but i had coke right infront of me" Which we don't, so no it's not and will never be a label. I've seen how people today call it labels when they really don't want to just because people attack those who belong to those cultures. I'm working on some lyrics myself dedicated to the eMo of the 80s- early 90s. "Rise Of eMoCoRe"

My situation is quite reverse,infant I have been urged to be removed from site for false allegations and not being emo,so what I'm not emo! But as stated in a recent forum post,I am human. Btw,welcome and it is a great site with cool down to earth people.

Same here, I get called emo and it doesnt bother me at all, and it doesnt even bother me when people call me an emo because I cut, well, I dont let people find out that I'm an emo aniiwaii, I keep it on a low in School, only my close friends know that I'm an emo.

Im not an emo. I mean, I know it's a sub-culture and I can relate to some of the common emo stereotypes, but i dont belong to any ONE culture/sub-culture. Im very individualised (like im pretty sure most people are).

I came onto this site to find friends I don't care if people call me Emo b/c I wear thick black eyeliner like screamo and wear a lot of black I mean come now don't hate me cuz you ain't me. Emo is just another label nothing to get upset about...

The only time it bothers me is when my family calls me emo... my friends know what emo is... and actually here, vs in texas they tend to know the REAL definition of emo, vs the whole cutting bullshit my old school came up with

aKs i am kinda the same. my close friends call me emo cos they no that it is not all about cutting although one of my friends i had to make them read the 'what is emo' on this site to prove it but yer i tend to keep quiet about my personal life in school.

Yeah in my school me and my best friend are the "emo" kids and when people call me that I smile and just walk away unless its that one kid even my earth science teacher stares at me I'm like bitch please but yeah it seems like all the wierder preppy girls like me and my best friend they always talk to us I never talk back though I nod and walk away b/c I hate them

I really don't understand the whole label thing, it's not a big deal. I dont see how its an insult. I mean, for example, back in the good old days, both my parents were punks. They were proud to be punks. Punks didn't get offended when other people called them punks, because it was something to be proud of. They were part of something.

I don't call myself emo purely because most people don't really know what emo is. They think it is being depressed and self harming so I don't associate with that. I just let people label me as whatever they want because I really don't care about the majority of peoples opinions about me.

Labels are labels, and some people do label themselves, but I don't. I get called emo, and it doesn't insult me or bother me at all. Emo shouldn't be considered an insult. It's just that many people think of it as something horrible, and they're just misunderstanding the term.

i don't like labeling myself as emo, i just like the style. if some1 calls me emo idc. just keep on hating ur not going to effect me lol thts what i'd say.
