So a few years ago in school I was in french class. The teacher was not in the best mood. She asked me to show her what I had written. She marked some words as mistakes so I asked her what was wrong with them. (here comes the epic answer) She said that the dots on "i" letters looked like commas XD Luckily she picked another target for the next day

Well, the French language uses accents over vowels. She may have been trying to get at the fact that unless it's a dot over the i, then it may look like an accented letter, which would be wrong. Just my take on things.
