What Does Your Style Say About You? Sep 04 2011, 11:19 AM
So, Saturday I went to my best friend's birthday party with this guy I know. He dresses in your typical 'Emo' fashion(black skinny jeans, HIM belt, Chuck Taylors, black hair straightened and Suicide Silence scarf) And this guy told me "Look at the way he dresses. He HAS to be gay." He isn't gay, and he gets offended when people think he is. Anyway, do you think it's okay to judge someone based on what they wear, or how they style their hair? If Andy Six was a regular person and he passed you by on the street, would you think that HE was gay?

Not on how they dress, no, you simply can't tell. You CAN however, tell a bit about what they're like from their attitude, which can be different to what you'd think from how they dress, if that makes sense :L

No, its awful to be judged gay just because the way someone dresses. I dress the typical look :P Hell I even paint my nails black.. I get called gay all the time at school. But I don't let it bother me. They can make fun of me all they want, but i'v got a beautiful, smart, funny, and just damn perfect of a girl who loves me for me. So nothing they say will change me.

"Anyway, do you think it's okay to judge someone based on what they wear, or how they style their hair?" - no, but everyone does it and it's always going to be that way sadly.

We have the freedom of speech style and who we want to be yet human nature cant accept any of that and its disgusting people get discriminated against what they wear4 and look like. If it makes them feel comfortable and happy and they like it what the fuck does it matter, you're not wearing what they are so just keep your nose out of it. Ahhhh =]

My parents think I'm a dike because of the way I dress and how my hair is... Style doesn't have much to do with whether you're gay or straight... I've seen gay guys with absolutely no style, so just because the stereotypical straight guy doesnt have a stylish bone in his body makes every guy that knows style gay??? seriously??

I know a gay guy who dresses like a total skater dude. You'd never know he was gay until he introduces you to his boyfriend :|

homo, straight , bi whatever... I don't care. The most important for me is not that what orientation are you, but that how you behave. Everybody is different.

Thinking about it, I don't actually know a single gay guy who's stylish... which kinda proves a point XD

As human beings we want to try and understand things, that is a FACT. It's human nature to try and analyze someone, easiest way is based on appearance... I could draw this WAAAYY out, but long story short: Is it wrong to try and figure someone out based on looks? No. That's nature. HOWEVER, is it wrong to JUDGE someone based on looks? It's absolutely wrong.

^^I see what you mean. It is human nature, but I'm talking about looking at someone and basing a wrongful judgement on how they dress or have their hair. These days, where I live, if a guy has color in his hair then he's gay. If he wears Chucks, skinnies, wristbands(etc) then he's gay.

M'mm. When Harri [My Sister], Mum & I are all out in Ruse [Nearest City] this girl walks by with white & pink hair & a tight black dress. Harri goes: OMG, Look at that woman behind you, Mum! Then Mum has this disgusted look on her face & gets all bitchy. Just because she wears a tight black dress & has cool hair means she a slut? I hate it;/. Or when a waitress has a lip piercing, Mum get's all nasty & disgusted. It's their choice not yours. It's wrong to judge a book by it's cover. Because deep down, that girl has something we call 'feelings' & she could overhear you. Do you know how much that can destroy a person? She could be so sensitive & go hang herself. That's just an example. But it's just wrong;/. Just because that dude wears a tight shirt & skinny jeans dosn't mean he's gay, it means he like's that kind of style & is comfortable with wearing it. I wonder what happened if suddenly his girlfriend appeared while they were all betting that he's gay...

You can't know someone's sexuality just by looking at their clothes. You can however know the people they hangout with (in middle school at least). Friends tend to dress alike.

Lest we not forget that judging people by what they look like and what they wear is what caused what happened to that poor girl Sophie Lancaster in 2007
