Career path?? Mar 09 2012, 03:46 PM
Soo I'm almost a Junior (year 11) and I'm supposed to be picking my classes for school next year but I have nooo idea what I want to do in college, therefore I don't know what I need to take next year... I've considered psychologist, personal trainer, journalist, actress, and song writer, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to fully stick with any of these, and I also want something that will be making a difference in the world... Blehhh I need help because I have no idea what I'm doing.

Best ask your parents or a careers advisor (if you have them)

Ehh my parents are too focused on my brothers, since they know I'm not much of a problem child anymore, they really couldn't careless what I do. And yes we have one but it's extremely hard to get an appointment with one

Ok well out of those I'd say psychologist for the best opportunities (know people who have jobs that studied that)

What I would do first is look at what your interests are. Then look at what you're good at. Take what you found your interests to be in, maybe do a little research to figure out what fields of study you can apply these to, then observe the pros and cons of these fields. Decide if the pros outweigh the cons or if the cons outweigh the pros. This could help narrow down things a bit. I did it myself when I was extremely confused about what I wanted to be, because nothing seemed to satisfy. I finally narrowed it all down. I knew I didn't want to go into the medical field (can't stomach it), I knew I didn't want anything to do with law enforcement, and I knew I wasn't the best at math (which cancels out a lot of stuff). I'm good at writing so I thought maybe journalism or something, but realized even that didn't cure the itch. I knew my biggest interests were in art and music, music being stronger. So I decided being a musician was best for me, it made me happiest, with my plan B as communications if that doesn't work out. Didn't mean to ramble, just thought I'd give you my own example. Anyway, that's what I did, maybe my method will help. Whatever you do, make sure you hold an interest in it. Money's good, but it's better to do something you love every day then to do something you hate, regardless of the pay. Oh yeah, and don't forget to brainstorm a plan B or even C, because almost everyone changes their major at least once when they're in college; at least that's what I've been told.

late reply but i would say go for psychology because it deals with helping people a lot which looks like you are passionate for. I am taking psych. this semester in uni and if i had to pick another major to study i would defiantly go with psychologist. Its super interesting and maybe you can take a class if your school offers it to see how you like it....i bet you will love it! :D
