The Pains of Life By Luke Hummel I think of the times gone by, and as I lay in the rain; I think of that pain. My love, my friends, my life. The pain that kept me sane, the pain that still remains. The pain that caused my strain, the pain that has no gain. The pain that made tearstains. As I lay in the rain, I think of that pain. I think of my love that betrayed me. My love,who played my heart, my love, who tore it apart, my love who never loved me back. I think of the pain she never stole, the pain that I extolled. Thepain that made me whole, the pain that gave me control. The pain that filled my soul. As I lay in the rain, I think of that pain. I think of those that criticised me. the‘friends’ that I could not trust, the‘friends’ that left me alone, the‘friends’ that were never there. I think of the pain that set me free, the pain that let me see. The pain that would never flee, the pain that saddened me. The pain that was my persecutee. As I lay in the rain, I think of that pain. I think of my life and its failures my life of utter disappointment, my life of empty sadness, my life of solitude and loneliness. I think of the pain that was comforting, the pain that was accepting. The pain that gave me meaning, the pain I'm always bearing. The pain that's always hurting. I think of the times gone by and as I lay in the rain. I say farewell to that pain. My friends, my love, my life. I now write to the pain that they caused. To the pain I now defy, to the pain I now deny. To the pain I now untie, to thepain I now saygoodbye. To the pain that I let die. Goodbye forever my old companion, But I’ve out grown you
