SH recovery Jul 08 2012, 12:00 PM
Right now some of you may know or may not know that i'm currently in recovery from Self harm after 8yrs of it(on and off) and yesterday i had my blades removed whitch is good so now that means there is no turning back but now i'm left with a one major problem .. A void..what do i do now when i get the feeling to sh because now i can't cut ? my distractions of nail painting, lyrics, walks etc are failing to work and that causes me fustration and stress whitch only makes matters worse .. I know the thoughts will stay with me for life along with the scars and the problem of never being able to look at a knife or razor in the same way again but i'll hopeful find a way around that .. but what can i do ??

You'll have to try different things to find out what works best for you, but I find pinging elastic bands onto my wrist helps, and ripping paper if my urges are caused by anger can also work for me :) a friend of mine found plunging her face into cold water useful, but that's not always practical xD

I found that playing guitar helped when I got the urge to cut. It kept me busy and the metal strings made my fingertips ache for hours after playing... Still do tbh. But the other methods worked as well. It's been 2 months since I last cut, but the urge will always be there

well i never had a serious issue with cutting, but when I did realise how bad it was i used a rubber band too, I also set myself with a few life long goals that I wanted to see fulfilled, so they would help keep me going, it also helped me to not cut because i knew i had somthing important to live up to!!! :)

It is haard at first but don't worry it'll become easier over time to not cut when things go wrong or whatever. When i stopped i just listened to music, cried and just went to bed if i couldn't get any better or go to my mum. Sleep sorts everything out :)

I did it too, for about 2 years now. I feel very guitly about it, cause my arms and legs are not that beautiful anymore. When I can't handle a situation, I still do it :'c But I think the first step is to accept that you (have) cut and so you have scars. There is nothing to do about it anymore. Yeah, that's a shame to say, but it's the truth (Why is the truth so hard..?) Anyway, I was wondering how you are doing now? What helped me a bit, is keep a diary or something else so you can count the days that you haven't cut. After a week or something, you can buy something nice for yourself? Or what other people say (What is also a great help) is listening music (Don't listen to self-harm music, that will only make you feel worse. But I think you'd already know that ;p ) I'm in treatment for 2 years now, also because of self harm. If you want to talk? I'm here c:
