Skateboarding :D Jul 22 2012, 04:02 AM
I've wanted to skate for awhile, I've decided I'm actually going to do it, I've grabbed an old board of mine and so far I have learned push starting, and a bit of tic tacing and a bit of Stopping. Yet first off all The Trucks on my old board are too tight and the bolts are rusted in. SO i need to get a new board, Do you guys recommend going out to the city to have a look at a few boards? What do you recommend? My height at the moment is 5'7" and I am looking for something to ride and maybe learn a few basic flip tricks and ride in non skate park area's so most of the time no bowl's ect. I am thinking I'd want a medium sized board for this? And off the board what's some thing I should keep in mind or learn while riding? :D

Well first of all I wouldn't really recommend buying something that costs like $60 let's just go to under $30 maybe. I got mine for like $13 plus tax so. But I'd go for under 30 at first then if you want go for the full package that's 60. But buy something(if you're buying something from walmart)that costs like 20 and up because they look much better. If your going to go to skateboarding shops(most i know, the skateboards cost like $30 just to start) then have your pockets ready. But don't try to spend to much money on a new board especially since you just started skating again, because you'd probably mess it up......that's what I did with my first and I still don't know how to skate ^.^. By the way, here is my current board(2nd) that i spent like 13 dollars at watmart on(It's either not a brand name, or I just can't find the name :P)and I kind of 'tricked' it out a bit it looks terrible: Skateboard 1 Skateboard 2 Skateboard Wheels 1

While learning bear in mind you will have some accidents ,so bumps and scrapes etc and practise blancing always helps ..i found using a plank of wood over a old plastic drain pipe worked as you can practise tilts etc

Start with something small, even if it's cheap, just make sure it has good grips and barrings because when I started cheap, the grips sucked and I fell and broke my ankle, fractured all of my toes, tore muscles, tore ligaments, a really painful fall. LOL. Don't be afraid to mess up the board though, it will get messed up, and don't stop with your foot until you get good at it. Stop with the tail end, placing your foot on the ground once it's stopped. But you really don't need to worry about some expensive name brand board unless you wanna go to skateparks and make it a hobby. :)
