My first attempt at a poem over innocence (as well as sharing publicly), still trying to work out a song for it. It's a topic that speaks a lot to me, to a lot of us I'm sure, as I look back and feel that maybe I grew up to fast. Maybe I didn't have a choice, but all the same. Anyways hope you like it. A child's innocence long past deceased Laid to rest on a bed of peace It's eternal sleep forever at ease With beautiful dreams of simple things Of flocks of birds singing merry tunes Of trees whose leaves will be turning soon No darkness does hide in this wonderful world No conflicts arise in this make believe world Laid to rest on a bed of peace The child's innocence will soundly sleep The night away, day by day No care for the world but for that which it lays A meadow filled with soft flowing grass A creek bubbling with a splish and a splash No darkness does hide in this wonderful place No conflicts arise in this make believe place A stranger watches as the casket descends Ignorant to who lies within Feeling strange and incomplete The stranger asks who is deceased. "No one you know" the preacher solemnly echoes "Just a child who fell to his foe" So the stranger turns and walks away Through a meadow where dead men lay, Where soft grass slowly grows from their ash Above which crosses as tall as trees stand fast Where crows caw at the newly deceased And where a creek bubbles with the blood of the weak So he walks through the meadow of men, wondering why he feels so empty and dead within. Beneath the soft flowing grass Tucked away, safe at last A child's innocence sleeps away Dreaming of a meadow filled with hay, Of trees and birds singing merry songs Of a creek flowing, bubbling along. Happiness exists in this place.
