lack of confidence Feb 22 2013, 02:20 PM
I was wondering if anypne has advice on boosting confidence. I find it very hard to talk to people i dont know in person even those in my school lessons or simply sales assistants in shops. Its really fustrating me and i cant find a way to boost it to a level where im comfortable to speaking with people. I used to be alright but due to illness (which is still ongoing) and unloyal friends i find myself in this predicimant Any help would be well appreciated

I've been in exactly the same position as yourself, and still have some problems with confidence even now. The best bit of advice I can give, and I know that this is asking a lot, is to just go for it. Everytime you find yourself in a situation where your lack of confidence prevents you from doing something, just go ahead and do it. Sure, you may be completely freaking out, but eventually, you'll realise that most of the time, overcoming that fear will be worth it. I know it's difficult, but it's the best way to help yourself. Other that that, being involved in theatre can sometimes help to build up confidence, I've seen it many times in people I've worked with :)

i think the best way to start is by finding things you like about your self that make you happy and not careing if other people dont like those things. As long as you are happy about who you are or at lest some of the things that make you who you are then talking to people and what not gets easier. The worst thing that can happen is a person might not like you or develop a negitve opinion about you but so what? not every one is going to like you or understand but as long as you are able to find who you are and like your self confidance will come natraly. just learn to go with things and slowly push your self out there, dont have any regrets and if things dont go well you can always start over the next day.

maybe when your out with friends and they're talking ot people you may not know, try and get into that conversation. That's how i start speaking to new people most of the time. The only time i ever say hi randomly is when im at a gig and maybe at a metal DJ night..people are quite relaxed and social when it comes to those areas :)

^ Agree with both of you there :) when you're out with friends, you're already in an up-for-a-good-time mood and so will the people around you who you don't know. It's always easier to get into conversations when everyone's in a positive frame of mind :) and yeah, it doesn't matter if someone doesn't like you, not everyone is going to like you because everyone is different, we all have different tastes and personalities, so we naturally get along with some people better than others :)
