Where has my heart gone .... trapped in the eyes of a stranger .. ohh I wish I could go back to believing in everything and not knowing anything at all. Fields of innocence, by Evanescence

Good mourning Apr 14 2013, 12:34 PM
Darkness bathes the star lit sky Silent noises pierce the night The wind sends shivers down my spine The ambiance pervades my mind; Midnight madness, magnified. I am Jeckyl, slave to Hide Trapped in martyrdom's conundrum: Spirit exalted but dead inside: Limbo's my home;my sweet dungeon. Chained in this dark and dreary prison Aghast at my shadows familiar shape I lie in shackles and await The decision of my destined fate Is it now or is it too late I live I die I resuscitate As angelic demons prepare my wake Oh for hell and heavens sake! From this torment is there no break? Finally the verdict unfolds I shall be led to join the ghost; All the lost and weary souls The guillotine falls, low and behold! The darkness triumphs I am at home. Severed, I my worldly ties Now I'm bathed in perpetual light Alba! Mater! Hear my cry I soak in the sun's rays sweet adorning My spirit sings, Fiat lux, good mourning. Stephen

Nice! That's partly correct. A brilliant interpretation given you have no contextual knowledge. I'll reveal what it's about sometime later.

The opening paragraph is the combination of how the darkness of the world - pain suffering etc are entrenched in my conscience sends me mad. This madness makes me take on another persona so to say, not an evil one, but a righteous one... The martyrdom has to do with the concept of dying. Martyrs die for god or some religious ideal, so i'm referring more to a righteous death.. but at the same time, I ask the question, can death be righteous? Is dying for an ideal really worth it? The dungeon metaphor continues from the martyrdom question... death for a righteous cause; spirit is trapped. This follows on to the line about my apparent unworthiness, the darkness inside me. The next stanza goes on to personalize my agony; the confusion. I use things such as angelic demons and the juxtaposition of concepts of life, death and rebirth to emphasise the conundrum; the struggle of being alive but still having to die spirituality for an ideal. I choose, or should I say, death is chosen for me but as the last stanza states, death is a new beginning. I die spiritually to the things which seemed like life and I allow my ideals, my higher aspirations to consume me; so I die today and wake up to a new tomorrow. I mourn the death of my passions and I live in the present reality of living true to my dreams and not a slave to what the world would have me do.( hence the flow from the outside worlds darkness to the inward darkness to the rebirth of the spirit, to the light of the world) In a nutshell, it's a battle of my conscience.
