Sleep o.0 Aug 04 2013, 04:01 PM
We all fall asleep at some point or another through various forms. But for insomniacs and night owls like myself sleep isn't exactly the easiest of tasks to achieve I've been on meds for a good few months now to try and help me sleep but even still i'm finding it hard to get 1 maybe 2 hrs of broken sleep let alone the recommended ( active teens/adults) 6-9 hrs. Even though i've taught myself to adapt to my werid sleeping pattern it's not excatly helpful... So what can i do to make myself feel tired/sleepy or drop off to sleep easier??

I've found it helpful for myself to develop a bedtime routine. If you do it enough your body starts to recognise that it is a routine. I've not been very good at sticking to it lately because things have been a little tough, but anyway here's a run down. About an hour before I need to sleep I turn my computer, the tv, put my phone down. Then I'd have a nice relaxing bath maybe with something soothing like a lavender bath soap or whatever. Then I just dry my hair, get into bed and like read a book with like a hot chocolate or caffeine free tea, or a magazine or whatever. And it is also important to only sleep in your bed. Say if you do your homework in bed or something. That gonna screw with your sleeping. Hope it helps :)

For starters, pills are worthless. If you have sleep issues, first thing to do is ask yourself how your state of mind is when your not trying to sleep....hows your eating habits? safe to assume not good? Would help to know what goes through your mind when trying to sleep. General things that might help, only sleep 6-8 hours unless your trying to get get back on a specific sleep schedule. Have a box fan on low running for background noise. Try Valerian root drops about an hour before you want to sleep. Alot of times though bad sleeping patterns are food related.
