not sleeping or eating. is tht really bad? Aug 18 2013, 07:53 PM
i havent been eating or sleeping mainly i dont want to eat cuz i want to lose weight my mom says i might have a major problem with tht.... and sleep i just dont sleep, i think there bad habits. i need some advice. how can i stop this before i have some bad medical conditions?

Firstly those habits as you said will harm your health in the short and long term. Firstly sleep. It helps refresh the body and boosts appetite. Try getting into a bed time routine so set a time you want to be in bed by and try and relax before this time also hot milk or hot chocolate before bed helps you get sleepy. If not take naps throughout the day. As for not eating that sends your body to stravation mode meaning you will can gain weight faster and be more than you started as it holds onto the foods you do eat.. The healthy way to lose weight is regular cardio ie running,cycling etc (But have days off so you can recover and prevent injury stress on joints and muscels) or other excercise to burn off fat and tone up but you also need to eat as well . Try small blanced meals through out the day this reduces the need to snack but gives you the energy to work and stay healthly also eating helps you sleep . So plenty of veg and protien :) If that dosent work eat the normal 3 meals and keep them blanced or if easier snack heathlity throughout the day to keep energy levels up . What ever you do DON'T stop eating as it is very danergous.trust me Hope this helps if you have anymore problems or just want some more help/advice just send me a PM and i'll do my best to help :)

Yes that's really bad. Not eating sends your body into starvation mode. This means that your body slows the metabolism and starts eating away at muscle for fuel. This is actually really bad because it can make you weigh more and the slow metabolism means your blood pressure will be low too which can make you faint. Sleep helps your body repair and "reset" it also, as Kate said, regulates the appetite. If you don't sleep you'll crave food during the day and it will mostly be sugary foods. Also you become very moody and have mood swings more when you haven't slept. As for eating, eat 5 small, healthy snacks during the day. I have a bit of fruit, some fruit juice and a small bowl of cereal or a cereal bar usually. Also a reminder on your phone every 3 hours reminding you to eat helps. For sleeping, warm drinks with milk help you feel sleepy. But make sure what you're drinking doesn't contain alcohol or caffeine as that makes it harder for you to sleep. Also set a routine for bedtime that you follow every night at the same time because this helps tell the brain it's time for bed. Also turn off the TV, put down your phone etc. an hour before bed and do something quiet and calming such as reading or drawing instead. Hope this helps :)

agree with everything said.. I've even seen on TV where a woman was just not eating.. only having about 350 calories a day and even the doctor said that she would lose more weight eating at least 1000 calories for the body as said goes into starvation mode which then it clings on to whatever it can.

thx guys i never really knew i could gain weight by not eating. but the problem is, is when i do eat 3 small meals like i used to sometimes it makes me feel horrible. also i have the worst sleep due to nightmares. no im not lying, i have terrible nightmares cuz of what happened in the past..... ill try everything yall said and agian thankyou.

you will feel horrid as not eating causes the stomach to shrink so going straight into eating large meals means it has to stretch suddenly so try to increase your food size gradually to avoid this problem and your body will get used to having food inside it as for dealing with nightmares/past flash backs try and relax before you sleep so your brain is less active and more likely to skip REM sleep ( the type of sleep dreams and nightmare occur ) if not distract your mind ie go for a walk,draw etc i personally find helps and no worries =)

I can relate... i've been anorexic for years...i went overit by smoking weed and with good buds :-)
