Depression Getting Worse Sep 03 2013, 01:34 PM
It's been about four years since I've been depressed. I started becoming aware of it my senior year of high school. The reasons why are almost endless and everyday it seems like its getting worse. Though, sometimes I can be happy, but there's times when I get so depressed I start contemplating suicide and that's bad. I tried talking to my primary doctor about it to see if he could help, but he only transferred me to psychiatrists or therapists. He gave me four numbers and none said they could help me, which is pretty cruel. So it seems that therapists these days won't help people like me when it comes to depression, or mental health. I don't think I'm crazy, or need serious help, but I want to know if I should get anti depressants. Because lately it's been getting in the way of my favorite hobbies like skateboarding, reading and guitar. Maybe there's some ways I could make myself happy but nothing seems to be working. Food does, but it turned into an eating disorder so at the moment I can't eat a tasty burger or that delicious ice cream because I'm on a DIET. So is there any tips or ways to cheering up, or do you think pills are a good option? What do you think?

Try the pills they may or may not help, but you can always stop if they aren't working.

you can take pills if you want... but from what i hear it's all good till they start to wear off. I find it's trying to think more optimistic about life when it comes to low periods (which is easier said then done) I'm sort of the same (no where near as server though) where ive been about low and whatnot for a good 4 years i spose now and i find, mentally, ive gotten worse. It's just finding means/ways of dealing and/or living with it. Sorry if that wasn't much help XD

Try the pills . There are quite afew types drs can prescribe ,if they don't work you could try distraction methods The distractions way is pretty self explanatory , if you feel you are heading towards a low or think you might distract your mind with something you enjoy doing , if that fails look for positive things you have and write them down in a list and put it somewhere you will see it. That way you can look and remind yourself of the positives when you feel low. Also listening to upbeat music helps lift the mood and makes you feel better. As for your Eating disorder i'd advise you to seek help with it asap or try and stop or control it as they and depression are a dangerous mix together as i know and can tell from personal experience. If you need any more help on either thing or just want to talk through things and want someone to listen feel free to PM me and i'll do my best to help :)

Pills do help BUT only to a certain degree. Depression is something I struggle with but not many know it. TALKING HELPS. I had someone I could share with and it helped. Being able to look inside yourself and really realise what is wrong or what is bugging you and talking to someone who won't judge or look at you differently helps. Can talk to me since I know what it's like.
