Burn your bridge and wear. Your heart out on your sleeve, You know you won't fool me. You made all these promises, You broke these promises to me. Follow your heart this time. Hear me out, by Silverstein

Anti Depressants Oct 27 2013, 03:22 AM
Ok... 2 years ago the docs prescribed them to me for my anxiety and depression issues, but I never took them because I don't believe they work and I never saw a reason to take them. Well recently I've been having more trouble with anxiety issues than ever. I can't even talk to some people without having a panic attack and needing to leave the room. I've noticed drinking helps but I obviously cant drink all the time. So I need some advice... Do you think it's time I started taking the anti-D's?

I'd go speak to your doctor first before you take medication as there maybe other treatments such as therapies available that could work for you rather than taking tablets that may or may not treat the condition and could pose side effects also the doctor may give you a different kind of tablet to take as well =)

I tried them. Total waste of time. Not a simple fix.

So long as its given in the right doses and you don't start using it as a crutch then yes, you go ahead following consultation. If you're at a point when you can't get yourself out of the pit, might as well go to the short end of some considerable means Good luck.

as said.. talk to your doctor about it as therapy may be another option which in my eyes would be better as it'll try to target the problem whereas the anti-D's will only pretty much mask it, not solve it. If it came to it..maybe take the tablets but go to a group or 1 to 1 thing to try and solve the issue so you'll end up over time not needing to take them :)

I tried using antidepresents for a year, honestly it did nothing and I was put up to pretty high doses. It might work for you but don't expect some miracle pill because it doesn't work like that.

I have tried counselling before but it didn't help, the only reason I kept going was because it got me out of lessons for an hour a week. I was actually supposed to be taking the tablets as well for the entire year I was having counselling but I never did because as said, I don't believe they work. It's like covering a wound with a plaster when it really needs stitches. Gonna talk to my GP though, there might be other things I can try first. Thanks for all the advice!

Drinking makes it 10x worse, I recommend attempting to save yourself without medication. That way, you prevent dependance on the medication.

I suggest you talk to a doctor, counselling seems a huge waste of time with everything being met with "and how do you feel about that?" As Kate said there are a multitude of therapies and medication, what was prescribed for you then may be inadequate now. It may be worth asking about things such as cognitive behavioural therapy or even consulting an occupational therapist to try and get some sense of normality back in your life. By all means try anti depressants but only after you have seen a doctor to make sure you are on the right ones with the right dose. Good luck hun.
