Screamo Music Less Popular Nowadays? Nov 18 2013, 01:52 PM
Who agrees with me? A few years back it seemed more popular than it is now. Maybe it's just me and my changing tastes..

Depends what you mean by screamo I guess...stuff where it was mixed screaming and clean vocals like Silverstein and Hawthorne Heights (the best kind imo) I don't think is as popular as it used to be, but plenty of ppl still listen to it :). Also I think metalcore 'screamo' has sort of taken it's place with bands like BMTH and Asking Alexandria being really popular. I could be wrong though.

like the above post said most vocals are now mixed nowadays but it's defiantly still around in the punk genres and a fair bit is still strong in the underground depths =)

Yeah I kinda agree the screamo trend is kinda changing and other genres are becoming more popular now. It's kind of evolving into something else and I think that's how music trends kinda work. :D

Alot of bands have switched to clean vocals that used to have screamo vocalists, e.g. Deaf Havana, Bring Me the Horizon, etc to appeal to the more wider audience. Its good in some ways but you have to keep some in if the song needs it, you can feel it in the voice the emotion coming out in the lyrics they're shouting out sometimes. I do like it.

Here in the Netherlands, they are still really popular under the emo's and other alto subcultures.

so true I first got into screamo and emo type music it when it was just getting popular with the underground I remember going to see hawthorne heights when there were still just a local band playing for like 40 people and same with devil wares prada. at the time emo music was popular with fans of underground music but it wasn't till like a couple years later it really got big even with mainstream music fans but after a couple years it kinda died out and isn't really popular anymore. I remember how easy it was to find a show on the weekend and now most the venues are closed or only run a show every month or 2 its kinda sad but at the same time it shows how the true fans are.
