Lostprophets Ian Watkins guilty of child sex offences Nov 26 2013, 11:47 AM
Ian Watkins, singer of Welsh rock band Lostprophets, has pleaded guilty to a series of "depraved" child sex offences including attempted rape of a baby. He had previously "furiously denied" the allegations. The 36-year-old from Pontypridd and two women had been due to stand trial at Cardiff Crown Court. Watkins pleaded guilty to attempted rape and sexual assault of a child under 13 but not guilty to rape. This was accepted by the prosecution. Sentencing will take place on 18 December. Really quite terrifying some of the things I've read about him. Can't believe someone could do such a thing. :(

Update : A verdict and sentence have issued: Source- bbc news/ wales He will spend 29 years of his sentence in jail with a further six years on licence. His two co-defendants, mothers of the abused children, were also jailed for 14 and 17 years. Speaking before he sentenced the three defendants, Mr Justice Royce said the case broke "new ground" and "plunged into new depths of depravity". Watkins, who will be eligible for parole after serving two thirds of his prison term, was sentenced alongside the two women known as Woman A and Woman B who also pleaded guilty to child abuse charges. Woman A was jailed for 14 years and Woman B was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Watkins admitted the attempted rape and sexual assault of a child under 13 but pleaded not guilty to rape. Police said Ian Watkins used his celebrity status to abuse young children He also admitted conspiring to rape a child, three counts of sexual assault involving children, seven involving taking, making or possessing indecent images of children and one of possessing an extreme pornographic image involving a sex act on an animal.

Yeah, I just read about it on Facebook, and I was shocked. Though, no matter if you're a celebrity or in a band, you are still human, and people still do heinous things. It's sick to read. It's like, DUDE. You have a lot of good women your age to mess around with, like groupies. But no, he had to do something stupid and touch children. I'm so done.

it's disgusting he's appealing his sentence now !!! apparently he feels the sentence he was given was too harsh however he is NOT contesting what he charged with.. read more here

Mixed thoughts on this news Kate.. I'd need to see all the evidence listed to make a proper judgement as to whether 30 years or whatever it was is enough/not enough.

30 yrs is classed for the general offence of "sexual assault" and "paedophilia" etc as harsh and the heaviest the court (which the case was heard in) can give, other than life in extreme circumstances that sadly in the eyes of the law this doesn't count as. ^ surprised i remember that from my law lessons when we covered this case back in june but yes, no one expect the courts and the people in the case have the full set of facts or evidence so, i guess it's now upto the new jury,judges and court to decide his fate.
