Religion Vs the Relationship Jan 18 2014, 10:09 PM
So I stumbled into a relationship with a hardcore Christian the start of last year. The thing is that I don't believe in any of that stuff so we often have healthy discussions about different topics like how mankind started or how life on earth started. Things were going well until she decided to get serious with her Christian faith and decided to go to train with her mentor in her church ( I have no idea what kind of training she's talking about ) anyway, she started talking about demons, possession and other demonic stuff etc. She eventually broke up with me claiming she was afraid of me getting hurt as I did not have the Holy Spirit inside me or something like that ( I suspect it's lies but you need to know the whole story to perceive it that way ) Back to topic, I just want other opinions on whether religion should affect whether you should get into a relationship with another person cause I would love to be more cautious for my next relationship, blew a lot of stuff on this one.

I don't think that you have to have the same belifs to be in a relationship with a person but u have to have respect and tolerance when u have different views. for exsample a person that takes it seriously to the point they want u to convert, is constantly making an argument about it, pushes there beleifs on u, or judges you for beliving different is not a good match. as long as you and the other person can have open conversations about it and are able to respect each others belifs I don't see why it cant work. im personaly an atheist and my bf is a Christian but neither of us have extreamly strong belifs were we would fight with eachother or judge eachother and it dosnt really make a difference in our relationship. I would never expect him to belive there isn't a higher power and he would never expect me to go to church or read a bible.

I think it is hard to have a relationship when you do not agree in basics such as lifestyle, philosophy etc. I think I could not even fall in love with someone who has a different taste in music. :D So you should look for a girl that really has your interests and philosophy. Or at least the two of you should respect each other's different point of view though I think this won't work for a very long time.
