well my mom seems ok with it sorta but when we discuss certain things I have to lie about likeing them or they will FLIP and the funny thing is my parents said they would kill me if I got a tattoo, peirceing or dyed my hair.....my mom has a tattoo on her back a navel piercing dyes her hair. I would think I should be what I want with myself like the piercing and the tattoos I sorta get but dyeing my hair....stumped and the clothes im slowly getting them to get used to it

I was joking. Anyway, the best advice I have is to slowly and steady start transforming, and if they say no, just accept it. You might think that 18 is way too old to start having real responsibility and choice, but at that age you will not feel the same way about it. Arguing only makes things worse, unless you want to be one of those rebell kids. If you all get along, sit down and try to reason, things would go smoother I would hope.

^ @ getthathonkey don't joke over self harm. it's NOT funny nor light hearted and is a serious matter. that outta the way.. seen as this under fashion, i'm assuming this is a problem over dressing in the style and not over music and other aspects related to it.. you could try small changes such as changing baggy jeans for skinny ones or blue for black etc what ever you feel is comfortable and more you're personal style. from personal experience, my parents were very strict and against it at first but i found gradual introduction worked well. ie i started by wearing a studded belt instead of a regular one and then slowly added chains to my wallet etc As for tops, i met my parents at the half way point at first. So i stuck to plain colours and patterns mainly or if i wanted a graphic print asked their opinion on it and if they didn't like it, asked why so i'd know for the future when buying those kinda tops. Also when i first started to want to wear band mech, i was lucky enough to receive some off them in the form of xmas's/birthday gifts and this way they couldn't moan at me for wearing merch, as they bought it :) if all else fails , just sit down with them all and have a serious discussion on why they won't let you dress the way you want. listen to their opinions and worries, then tell them why you want to wear certain things and how you can deal with your parents concerns and hopefully you can come to some sort of compromise or deal. As for hair dy, it's taken alot of talking/discussions to come to a comprise and a set of rules both me and my mum agree on Ie not allowed to dye it all or only can dye it in the holidays etc i hope this helps :)

I'm not sure my advice will be the best in the world as my parents were never really bothered about the clothes side of things, and my response to being told I couldn't get my ears pierced a second time was to go and get them pierced anyway... (though that did work and they were more lenient with other piercings and now I don't live with them so they have no say anymore xD) But ask them WHY they have a problem with those things. If it's just the "oh you're too young" or "oh we just don't want you to look like that" bullshit, then introduce new things slowly. If there's a genuine reason, find a counter reason for it, and try to reason with them.
