Job getting me down Jun 28 2014, 02:45 PM
So for years I have been dealing with anxiety, sometimes it gets worse and other time I literally forget I was ever anxious about anything in the first place. Anyway, with all that's going on at the minute (relapses, loss of a family member blah blah) I find that my anxiety is sky high. I work with the public, and a lot of colleagues in one small place. Customers are rude, staff are rude and I find myself having panic attacks daily. I've Made this clear with the managers but still nothing is being done to get me a job that I can do out of the way or have less time in contact with people. It's really making my life difficult. I've been looking for other jobs but they all seem to be dealing with the public and I don't think I could handle that, and I also can't leave my job until I get another because I'll have no way to pay bills. I'm in serious doubt about weather I can even make it to the end of next week and I'm totally stuck! Does anyone have any suggestions?

At first I suggest you to get your private life back to normal, at least as much as you can do. It is not good to have problems at work and home. Try not to care about the rude customers and stuff. Maybe they were having a bad day?? Of cource it´s not right from them to pour their anger at you. Dont worry about that, they will get the deserved punishment. If you do your best, you will as well soon get the results you deserve. Karma really works. Do good and you get twice back. You might as well do a good deed for a family member, and later the good might come back to you through work. You might find the job you really can manage and love... Try to hold on in the job you are doing right now. Have faith that soon you will find a better job. In your free time do not think about work. Rest and try out new fun activities which keep your mind away from the problems :)I hope I was being helpful.

Hi there! I just want to let you know first and foremost, that social anxiety is not uncommon! But in stressful situations such as work it can really set you back from being your best! First of all remember you impressed someone enough to actually prompt them to give the job so however you feel, you clearly come across as capable of doing the job, so try and take a little bit of confidence from that. It is normal for stress to also excentuate these problems of social anxiety and death of a family member can be particularly stressful, obviously the grief involved and also the practical things like funeral arrangements, if work is also particualrly stressful at the moment it can all mount up and get on top of you. Try and tackle each problem one by one. Taking a little time out to yourself is essential! Even if its just ten minutes on a lunch break taking time to reflect then its worth doing, because it takes you out of the stressful environment long enough to get your thoughts back in order. At home, try to relax. Completely shut off work and try not to dwell on what people have said to you or your responsibilities. Do something YOU enjoy, have a bath, take a quiet walk,read.. anything that helps you to relax. Try and stay away from high octane things like the net, or computer games for that duration, because they can increase your heart rate and in turn cause greater stress. It also sounds to me as if you are being taken for granted at work. There is no excuse for customers to be abusive to you if you are being cival and doing your best for them and the managers should be taking your reports seriously. It sounds to me they are quite willing for you to get an earful on their behalf rather than them deal with the problems themselves. Just try not to take any of these customer comments personally. Most of the time they aren't aimed at you, they are aimed at a poor service and poor management. Again it should be the mangager's duty to make sure everything is in order. So don't be so hard on yourself! In light of your poor treatment at work, it may be worth looking for alternative employment if your'e working somewhere that is lowering your self esteem. I can understand that giving any job up in this day and age is not an easy step but at least looking for other options may be a good idea. You could even volunteer on one of your days off just to build your confidence again. You can be sure that volunteers are not taken for granted. Any time you can give is very much valued, and it may encourage you to strike up some amazing converstaions you never thought you were capable of having! I hope this is of some help to you but if there is anything else you would like to chat about please feel free to message! ;)

Most jobs involve some sort of public involvement. A tip, whenever you complain to a manager you should ALWAYS direct it torwards it as being bad for their company and not just yourself. Like it giving the company a bad rep, effecting productivity, unprofessional etc.. Alot of managers could care less if its a personal issue that effects no one else. Theres always ways to deal with rude customers that just make themselves sound like idiots without being direct and just end up making you laugh about it instead. Colleagues, there are numerous ways to go about that.
