Keep the Lights OFF Dec 02 2014, 08:49 AM

Sometimes, The Darkness is scary. The darkness of your room, as you count shadows on the wall. The paranoia creeping into your mind, As the floorboards creek in eerie places at unexpected moments. You try to reason with yourself, Try to tell yourself how silly you're being. But it doesn't seem silly to the voice in the back of your head. In a grasp for your sanity, you flick on your bedside lamp, Remembering how easily it soothed you as a child. All the troubles and fears that come with the dark, Melt away as the carved shade spins slowly on the axis, Making whimsical shapes on your wall. You feel happy, content, safe. All is calm. All is right. You think it will be a silent night. Until you feel the creep of fingers on your shoulder, And the deep rasp of a voice embodied only by the man you knew as a child. Only then you remember; This man that you saw in your dreams... He wasn't a man. He was a monster. "Thankyou for illuminating the room." He says. "I wouldn't have ever found you in The Darkness." ... So remember. Don't turn on the lights.
