i wrote this for an assignment in my creative writing class a month or so back, and im proud of it so i wanted to share it here ^^ i wanted to convey that loss of childhood innocence you feel as you age, and how painful nostalgia can be. with a slightly bittersweet hopeful outlook at the end, of course, because i firmly believe our perception and our actions affect our mindset so much ^_^ we all have the power to change our lives for the better, if we give ourselves the chance. ANYWAYS. RAMBLE OVER. HERES THE POEM :D

Lipophilic Memory
I see it —
in grainy corners of a dark room
the Light that waxes and wanes;
the Cake that wears it as costume.
Once bright, with purples and pinks,
its old image flickering, the child standing in front.
And though eroded like old chain link,
that child has not been exeunt.
The candle is small now, the wax in its flesh,
A cake it still is — a cake it will be.
Time’s progression is not always an end
— do you see?
