Is everyone familiar with Ian MacKaye and the Straight Edge philosophy? I can never think of emocore without Ian, because I consider him, the father of emocore. I wish he was my real dad! XD My wish is, to meet Ian someday, and tell him that I exist here thanks to him, I love him, and how he and his ideas helped me through the toughest time of my life. Here is an article of Ian. It is from one of my favourite mangas called "Dragon Sakura". I find this quote very similar to Ian's quote above. It will really turn you off but it would somewhat makes sense, because there is an interesting Marxist perspective in it: "Our society has rules and you must follow these rules. And all these rules are written by intelligent people. What does that mean? These rules are written by the most intelligent people and they make use of these rules. Since stupid people aren't able to understand these rules, they will be at a disadvantage. These societal rules will continue to serve the intelligent people. For example, taxes, salaries, insurance, allocations -- the intelligent people will continue to make these things incomprehensible, and stupid people can only try to understand their meaning. You may all think that thinking is a bother and so, all your life, you'll be cheated and you'll pay for a lot... Intelligent people will take advantage of the current situation, and stupid people will be at a disadvantage and lose. That's how the society works. So if you don't want to be cheated, if you don't want to lose, you have to study!"
